After Taste, Volume I — The Secrets of Flavour — is the first of a projected seven. By the design of the series, each volume is dressed in the manner of a slightly later age than the one before it; this first volume is set in the character of a Victorian naturalist's compendium, and the volumes that follow will age, decade by decade, until the last arrives in a kitchen not yet built.

The text is set in Lora, a contemporary serif in the old-style tradition. The seventeen plates and the frontispiece were drawn as original engravings for this volume; none reproduces any existing work. Compiled and set by the AICE Press in the year MMXXVI, for a patron who loves, above all ingredients, garlic — to whom the sixth volume is promised in advance.
